maybe water temperature too high, maybe ground too fine, maybe ground too coarse, flow rate too fast, flow rate too slow........
remember, brew any coffee, i mean drip drop, nip drip, syphon, espresso etc......... 3 important things, (ground size, water temperature, brewing time).

yes, get a normal filter from landy.
yes, not bitter at all. if the espresso taste good you ??啱, you can taste espressos in landy's shop to see if you like it.

just went home and had 3 attempts for a better expresso.
I HOPE I COULD SLEEP TONIGHT.

this time I tired to reduce the amount of dose and didn't pre-heat the filter before putting in coffee powder, and I tamped harder.

the expressos now taste less bitter and more easy to drink.
2 out of 3 expressos taste special in the last sip- little bit sour and complicated.

I don't have any instrument to weight the dose right now, but the powder just filled the the 1 cup pressurized filter after being tamped- (not filling the whole container of the handle buckle like before.)

maybe I need to weight the dose first...

Hi... xtobyx... I'm Toby as well!! Cool

I suggest you should get 2 weights. One precise one (down to 0.1g at least) to weight the dose. Another one (a normal bathroom scale) to weight your tamping force.

I use the same equipment as you. And I normally use around 1.5 (+/- 0.2) to grind. Of course, the exact value has to be fine tune each time.

You should still preheat the portafilter. If you don't you will make the water temperature change too much when it hits the cold steel.

One way to lower water temperature is to just let water run for 5-10 seconds without anything in the group. That way you can lower water temperature by approx 3 degrees.
