after you tamp, there are no clumps anymore, since the grinder is mignon with quite even grind.  |
First thing first, I'm only a new hand, my opinions are mostly based on my reading of different forums and blogs, and little expreience on espresso making..
In my understanding, clumps affects the even-ess of distribution, in minor degree.
but than, I agree that, it is not the problem that Mr. ch8444 need to solve right now.
Just my 2 cents

In order not to hijack this thread, here is my comment:
After looking at the videos, Like other c-hing has said, I think tamping is the area that ?? may need to work on. Perhaps a lighter tamp?

Ha ha, sometimes I tamp really hard... 
and sometimes I tamp not hard enough. Very inconsistent.
Actually, another problem is that I am not familiar with how to flat the powder by finger.
I watched so many videos, they are all done easily and quickly. For me, I just swiped so much powder to the table (but not inside portafilter), and sometimes press the powder down by finger accidentally. It is not as easy as I imagine...  |

That should not be a reference at all, the basket and tamper are different.

You are right, the video is about dosing.
I watched already, and watched many other video about dosing. Then, I tried many different ways. Now dosing and distributing becomes easier.
However, there is still no good tamping example for 4020's portafilter that I can learn from. I cannot find an easy, repeatable and accurate way to perform a good tamping, but the only way is trial and error, and hard working. I guess. |
