If I already had a good espresso machine and some money left.. I would definitely get one of these.. should taste very different.

I'm using one that I bought about 5 years ago.. I almost gave up the lever machine since I was not able to pull any good coffee 'til I met with Shing and Landy who taught me how to put this machine into good use with good beans... I'm now making good espresso everyday and even my wife asks me to pull her a cup as well...

Hi Lit.rice, I really don't have any ?? to share since I'm still trying to get the most of this lever machine.. but using fresh bean is a must and I guess this is the same for all other espresso machine as well.
Like I said I almost wanted to give the machine away when I was struggled to pull a decent shot over last five years. Every shot I pulled was just like black water with no creama at all. I went to Fresh coffee and checking out their Expobar and thinking if I should get myself a new machine.. Thanks for ah Shing to teach me the tricks on this La Pavoni and I'm very happy to be able to start to make some sense out of this toy...
Hi Pillowpaky, it doesn't take much room and it's easy to clean too...
Next target... a new grinder... hope it will work well to make better espresso

I've had my PRH for almost a year, and I love it. It took me a while to get used to it, but the above advice is very important: fresh beans. I usually let the beans rest for about a week, but try to use them up before two weeks. If it's after two weeks, I just use them for my wife's latte.

Another suggestion is a good grinder. It may seem silly, but I'm using a Porlex ceramic-burr hand grinder, and it works pretty well.

Other tricks are to use a long needle (I use a straightened paper clip) to stir the coffee grounds in the portafilter before tamping. This helps distribution and breaks up the clumps if your grinder isn't 100% perfect. I also do a manual preinfusion by lifting the lever up, slowly pulling down for six or seven seconds, then lifting the lever up again and doing my full downward stroke.

These Pavonis are small and elegant--and they make pretty good espresso, too.
