Hello hilary,
When we frothing milk, there should be ?????,
it is ??, no need to worry at all.
Just do not let the milk left around the steam wand when finished frothing.
Clean the wand and turn on the steam button for about 10-20 second when finished frothing each time. I am  to do this after frothing each time each cup.
One more ?? from IKEA to help steaming milk as sticky as cream.
Since my frothing ?? is ?? and sometimes some machine's steaming function is/are not powerful enough.
The frothier 100% can do the job, some of my friends love to drink iced Cappuccino or Latte, IT does the great job for me.
??????Cream??, ????????????

Try more, spend less than total 5 gallon milk, you must got it... 
BTW, Which band of milk you use?
?? for me is good.
Other connoisseurs here say Pura is good too, blue box.
But all milk must be cold enough before frothing.
