Try to lower the Maximum Environment Temperature to 260 / 270 C. However it seems a bit too low, the roasting time extended to 19min.

Hi are you also using Quest M3?
I've got one last week. It's a VERY good and compact roaster. 用佢manual mode嚟烘豆好有feel

In fact, Alex and I are doing some research to use TC4 Arduino shield (I've one on hand now) as data logger to directly connect to PC with USB (later maybe able to wirelessly use Bluetooth or WiFi), while TC4 is also capable to control SSR and act as a PID with the use of a program called aKona.

If more ppl use M3, there will be more fun for sure. We can also share our roast profile/1C temp/2C temp info etc for particular green beans.

Thx, I got my PXR4 from Taobao, PXR4 without RS485 is around CNY350, PXR4 with RS485 is around CNY750. Make sure the model number is right, there are many different options (unit C/F, SSR, Normal Relay, ....)

I use PID mainly for data logging and control of the MET (Maximum Environment Temperature).

Alternatively, Arduino with coffee roasting module (TC-4 support 4 thermocouple) is another less expensive but powerful option to consider as mentioned by Peter. If I do it again, I will centainly use Arduino.

Also the Artisan Roast software (freeware) is quite useful.

Alex, my TC4 Arduino shield is working properly with Artisan now!
Next step is to get aKona and pKona working as PID. From their documentation , except normal PID functionality, it seems you can also control the ROR (rate of rise) of target temperature etc as part of the profiling, which may not be readily adjustable with the Fuji PID, no?

I'm also thinking about modifying my espresso machine to accommodate the TC4 as temperature controller (just add a switch like your M3 and a thermocouple will do). Adding a bluetooth module to the Arduino can let the mobile phone controlling the TC4 and as a results the brewing temperature. Sounds very interesting to me.

Nice graphs. I think the logging of Delta-ET and BT of Artisan is a bit uneven. I am not sure if it is the sampling frequency or the logic.

I usually drop bean before the start of SC or near the end of FC. Would your 1st roast be a bit too dark? In your 2nd roast, I think you have tried to stretch the FC by reducing the power hence reducing the ROR. How's the taste of these 2 roasts?

BTW, I found the charge temperature can be higher say at 180C or 190C without scorching for bean mass of 150g or 200g.

我個first roast costa rica本來就係想試到第一下2nd Crack整個full city黎沖espresso, 所以無烘深到, 不過下次頭段會大火少少試下大d ROR, 再縮短整個烘焙時間, 呢款豆sm話要48小時先到peak, 所以未飲等今日晏少少先飲

第2個roast係想Roast City+但磅重後artisan話只算係City, 呢款豆你查番SM, 佢有好多水果香所以佢只係Recommend最深烘到city+, 沖黎飲緊, 又係要攤凍啲香味先出, 下次都係再試下前面再大火啲後面再慢火啲

落豆溫度方面, 呢兩隻都係硬豆, 應該可以再高溫d進豆, 下次又試下, 但我驚後段roast得太快, 所以頭段無教太大火

Delta BT好有用, Artisan一秒先read一次TC4, 有noise好正常啦, 可以不太理會, artisan個HUD好正, 你有冇用到? 佢有條線指住以現時ROR project幾時溫度會升到咩位置, 對於調教火力超好用!!!

今朝試隻costa rica la minita, 好甜, 完全無酸味, 唔講以為加咗糖!!! 其他味度方面, 無花香無果香但好chocolate好多果仁, brew ratio 64%, 似太濃, 但飲落body卻唔算厚, 整體都幾好飲 Laughing
